A dental implant is made from biocompatible titanium and artificially restores a missing tooth, replacing the tooth root. An implant consists of a small cylinder or artificial tooth root placed into the jawbone where it fuses with the surrounding bone, providing a strong foundation for a replacement tooth.
Step 1 Placing the Implant
The implant is surgically inserted into the jawbone and left to heal for three to six months. New bone grows on and around the post, a process called osseointegration.
Step 2 Attaching the Abutment
Once osseointegration is complete, a small connector called an abutment is attached to the post, and this will secure your new tooth.
Step 3 Attaching the Crown
The replacement tooth is attached to the abutment. Crowns can restore single teeth, but we can use implants to support bridges or even to hold dentures securely in place.
