Adult Orthodontics

Make an Appointment

It is increasingly common to see adults with braces or to notice friends, relatives, and work colleagues have newly straightened teeth. Many adults currently receiving treatment never had the chance to wear braces during childhood. Others might have worn braces during childhood but have subsequently had an orthodontic relapse, where teeth shift position because of aging or when failing to wear retainers after completing treatment.

Whatever your reason for seeking treatment, adult braces like clear aligners can effectively and discreetly straighten teeth. We can also provide fixed braces that are equally as discreet, and which are sometimes more suitable for complicated tooth movements. These fixed braces have clear brackets powered by very thin wires.

Choosing the Right Braces for Your Needs

During your initial consultation here at City Dental, you can discover much more about adult orthodontics and will learn about all possible options available. We can carefully assess your teeth and jaws and will examine your occlusion (the relationship between your upper and lower jaw). Straightforward problems such as minor tooth realignments and which don’t involve your bite are often simple to correct using removable aligners. More complex problems involving your bite might benefit from fixed braces; we can reposition teeth far more accurately with fixed braces.

How Long Will It Take to Straighten My Teeth?

Cosmetically oriented issues can sometimes only take a few months to correct, while more complicated problems could take a year or more. Most people complete treatment within a year, but we can provide you with a far more accurate estimate after examining your teeth and jaws.

What to Expect During Treatment?

We can provide you with plenty of information on how to care for your teeth while wearing braces and how to keep your mouth clean during treatment. You might need to spend a few minutes longer brushing and flossing each day, and people with fixed braces will need to adjust their diet slightly. When we first fit your braces, you could experience some minor discomfort as your teeth begin to move, but these feelings should soon diminish. If they don’t, we can adjust your braces to help them fit more comfortably. We will need to see you periodically to adjust fixed braces or to provide additional sets of aligners. After completing the treatment, you will need to wear retainers, but these are very discreet and easy to use.
